I’m always one to be feeling a bit of nail envy. My nails tend to be cut short-ish as they’re not too strong and I’ve never had acrylics (or any other false nail treatment) because I’m scared of the worsening effects it could potentially have on my nails. I have tried glue-on nails though, but for all the hassle they’re not worth it – I’d rather stick with what I’ve got. Nonetheless, whatever shape, length and condition of your nails, they always look a hundred times prettier with a little nail polish (or varnish….what’s the difference?!).
I’ve picked out some of my favourite ‘summery’ nail colours and I’ve also got a few recommendations of brands that I love.
These are definitely my ‘go to’ colours if I’m in a rush but want something on my nails (I literally NEVER leave the house without nail varnish on… weird…). These are so light and look very natural in colour but can be built up slightly depending on how many coats you put on. I really love these colours because they look so chic and effortless on your nails and can go with any outfit.

Ted Baker (part of the Paint the Town Pretty collection which -I think- was limited edition)
I have very few pastel coloured nail polish (but I’ve got my eye on a couple of colours which will be added to my collection soon). Pastel nails are definitely a must for me in the summer though, as they make you feel all ‘beachy’. I’ve been having ultimate nail envy of bloggers Lily Pebbles and Anna (from Vivianna Does Makeup). They’re always sporting a gorgeous shade which makes me want to run to Boots immediately.

I’ve already expressed my love for glitter polishes in a ‘current favourites’ video (which will be uploaded later next week – http://www.youtube.com/user/madfashionlover). But I seriously can’t get enough of them. I find these nail polishes never leave streaks and a lot of the time you can get away with just one coat. They’re the perfect nail polish to sport to the beach, but could also look elegant and sophisticated to an evening dinner (what more could you want?!).

BOLD AND BRIGHT
A nail post could not be a nail post without talking about some bold bright colours which are always fantastic for jazzing up a simple look. Bright nails are perfect for adding a bit of summer fun into what could potentially be a boring outfit. Personally I love warm colours on my nails such as oranges and reds – they look fab with a tan.

Claire’s Nail polish
Of course, there are always nail polish colours I want to try out. At the moment ‘electric blue’ colours are very popular – I’m definitely going to add one of those into my collection. I’m also after some lighter colours – duck egg blue, white and off white colours are throughout the shops at the moment.
Drugstore nail varnish is the way to go if you ask me. I’ve found that the Barry M Gelly nail polishes are some of the best – they have such a wide colour variety aswell, so you’re sure to find something you love! I also want to give a little mention to ’17’ nail varnish (you can get them in Boots). They’re really cheap but good quality – the best of both worlds!
If you have any shades which you think are perfect for the summer months then I’d love to hear them!
