Is it summer yet? Does May count as summer? Well, either way today I’m showing you some spring/summer outfit suggestions. I decided that I’d show some of the things that I have in my wardrobe to give you some ideas instead of using generic photos from clothing sites. I hope you enjoy this post and maybe even get some inspiration for your future summer shopping trips!
Denim is my favourite fabric throughout the year but I think you can play around with it even more during the summer seasons. Instead of sticking to jeans, add a bit of denim into your wardrobe in the form of dresses and skirts. I love this denim summer dress which I found at Primark many moons ago. It’s a simple piece which can be dressed up or worn simple with a pair of trainers like I’ve done here.
Playsuits should be a must in everyone’s summer wardrobe. I choose to wear my playsuit in a bold yellow (I wear yellow to death in the summer!) but I’ve got my eye on some new floral ones from shops such as Urban Outfitters and MissGuided. Playsuits are the perfect holiday essential as it requires minimal fashion effort – all you need to do is throw on a pair shoes and maybe an accessory or two then you’re done!
Bold, lightweight shorts have been popular in the shops recently. I nabbed these red ones from my mum recently and I’ve fallen in love with them. Although these ones were bought from Jigsaw decades ago, you can now find them everywhere on the highstreet. I particularly like the ones with trimmings at the leg or lovely floral prints. The great thing about these shorts is that they can be teamed with really simple crop tops and vests – they’ll be perfect for hot summer days!
I bought these floral trousers on an Oxford Street shopping trip a good few years ago but only ever wore them on my holiday last year. They were the perfect pair of trousers to keep your legs cool and out of the sun for a while. I think they’ve got a really boho look to them and would look slightly odd on a normal day in the city. However floral prints are really in at the moment and I’ve been loving lots of the garments which have been hitting the high street at the moment. You can style them by either wearing a block of colour (e.g. a plain vest top) or by mixing and matching different patterns like I’ve done above.
Lastly is this fringed dress which was purchased from Boohoo last summer. I’ve only actually worn this once, but I re-discovered it recently and have fallen back in love. It’s an alternative way of rocking the ‘maxi skirt’ trend as it gives the illusion of a longer garment but keeps the younger feel to the outfit. I particularly love the low scooped back on this dress and I think it’s perfect for the summer. Fringed garments give a cool, festival vibe. You can either go all out and get long fringed tops and dresses or you could play the trend more subtle and get a fringed bag from shops such as H&M and Zara.
So those are my spring/summer outfit ideas at the moment. I hope you enjoyed this post and will be busy making wishlists of your summer items. If you think I’ve missed something major in the outfit ideas then feel free to tweet me @madfashionlover
Enjoy your week!
