Style Icon of the Week: M.I.A

Hey there fashion lovers!
Umm.. how do I put this – I’m sorry. Ahh I feel like I’m saying sorry all the time at the moment but while I didn’t do a blog post on Wednesday or Friday last week, I was planning something pretty interesting. In fact I’ve got a slight change -well addition- to my blog. However, it’s a SURPRISE. All will be revealed on my 100th blog post.

Back to the reason of todays post. Today I’m talking about my style icon of the week which is M.I.A. M.I.A – Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam- is an English -Sri Lankan recording artist. She’s probably the most controversial person I’ve featured so far. M.I.A incorporates a range of political, social, philosophical and cultural references into her music. She’s done a lot of controversial things – in 2009 she refused to be ranked on the World’s most beautiful list, being one of the first people to decline it. She’s also the only ever artist to be nominated for an Academy award, Grammy award, Brit award, Mercury Prize and Alternative Turner Prize. I read an article in the Telegraph about M.I.A and it caught my attention, so I decided to have a look on the internet at some of M.I.A’s outfits.. take a look below!

I love M.I.A’s colourful, vibrant garment choices. Colour is EVERYTHING and I think it’s the best way to display your mood and personality. I’m particularly loving M.I.A’s unusual trousers and staple black ankle boots.
I think it’s really interesting how M.I.A mixes her traditional Asian roots with more westernized garment types. Love, Love, Love the jewellery M.I.A wears. The picture below is absolutely stunning with all those gold accessories!
Again M.I.A experiments with her use of jewellery and accessories. To be honest I think she’s just beautiful.
The unique prints and patterns which are often plastered over her clothes are amazing. They’re always unusual and almost retro/vintage looking.

Okay, as you can probably see I love M.I.A’s style. Who would believe M.I.A is 38 years old and has a child… surprising, right? I hope you love M.I.A’s style as much as I do. Make sure you keep your eye out for more controversial news and music from M.I.A!

My style icon this week is M.I.A, but who is yours? Tweet me their name and a reason why using the hashtag #MyStyleIcon to @madfashionlover or drop a comment below! You never know… next week it could be them!
