Hey there fashion lovers!
Today I thought I would write about vintage fashion. If I’m honest I’m a bit of a hater and a lover of vintage. Many celebrities LOVE vintage and incorporate it into a lot of their outfits. I’ve picked out my favourite celebrities who wear vintage regularly and will also talk about the best places to find vintage fashion.
I love vintage fashion because it revives the old clothes from some of the best decades of fashion. These clothes are also really well made – none of this cheap, poorly made rubbish. So the idea of vintage is great, I love it. But now vintage is so popular that everyone thinks they own a piece. In reality they’re trying to sell you their grandmas old clothes for big bucks. It’s so satisfiying to find a good vintage item which you absolutley adore, but getting to that stage is sometimes tricky. My biggest hatred of vintage shops, however, is the musky smell which hits you as you walk in. Some people love it, but I for one don’t like it, in fact I would go as far to say that it puts me off buying some of the clothes.
Alexa Chung is a big lover of fashion in general but particularly likes mixing vintage items into her outfits. She constantly mixes her girly dresses with vintage jewellery and bags which always leaves her outfits looking individual and quirky. To get a look like Alexa, start hunting for statement jewellery and wear it with worn out looking shoes (preferably brogues) and a really girly dress- shift dresses with a peter pan collar works well.
Previous ‘Style Icon of the Week’ Fearne Cotton also loves rocking a bit of vintage. She loves all things quirky and second hand having already self-confessed to loving a bit of bargain hunting. Fearne wears her vintage in the form of jewellery and retro print t-shirts to create a edgy, rock-chick look. Recreate her vintage look by getting your hands on some fabulous retro t-shirts (and no, not the type you get from primark…).
Kate Moss loves a vintage outfit and is often seen rummaging the racks of popular vintage markets to find the best pieces. To get a look like Moss team vintage finds – jackets, skirts and waistcoats are good – with high designer pieces. I particularly love how elegant Moss looked in a vintage satin dress at a fashion gala in 2007.
So if you’re looking for some new vintage pieces I would suggest a vintage leather jacket, a-line skirt or 50’s inspired dress. The best places to find vintage pieces has to be London (sorry International readers!). There are so many places to get vintage in London, but the best has to be London’s Camden and Portobello markets or Greenwich’s indoor market.
